Recently we completed a custom 12 volt fit out on Ford Everest and Concept Caravan

Recently we worked on a customer’s Ford Everest and Concept Caravan, fitting multiple assets into their vehicles to get them ready for their travels. Here’s what we installed:
Vehicle:
– Grey Anderson Plug for Charging Van Batteries
– Fridge wiring to power the Caravan Fridge while driving (through 12 pin)
– Redarc SBI12 Battery Isolator
– Electronic Stability Control Wiring (through 12 pin)
Caravan:
– REDARC 12V 40A DC-DC BATTERY CHARGER
– Red Anderson Plug for Solar Input

The first installation on the Ford Everest and Concept Caravan was wiring and installing the Anderson Plug on the vehicle. The purpose of this is to use the car battery to charge the batteries in the caravan while driving. To read more about Anderson Plugs, click here!

To protect the starting battery, we installed a Redarc SBI12 Smart Battery Isolator. The SBI12 is a safe way to charge your auxiliary batteries as it ensures that while travelling, you are not draining your starting battery from any other power sources, like the fridge or batteries in your caravan.

As well as this, a second Anderson Plug (red) was also installed at the rear of the vehicle to power the Electric Stability Controller in the customer’s Concept caravan. The ESC (Electric Stability Controller) is a safety feature that detects movements of the caravan. When the ESC has reached the critical point of lateral movement, the caravan brakes automatically kick in and bring the caravan back into line.

Another installation was the Redarc BCDC 40A Battery Charger. The Redarc BCDC 1240D was installed in the caravan to maintain the two auxiliary batteries that are used to power the fridge and accessories in the van. With 40A capacity it has twice the charging capability of a 20A DC-DC charger and has a larger 550W solar input. The Redarc BCDC 1240D features a MMPT solar regulator and will charge from both solar and the alternator simultaneously. With built-in ‘Green Power Priority’ it will select solar charging first, meaning less load on the vehicle’s alternator.
