Nissan UD Cattle Truck Battery System installation

This was a first for our workshop. We’ve fitted a lot of battery systems in vehicles and caravans, but never in a cattle truck! Despite this, battery system was pretty straightforward for our technicians. 

Here’s what we installed on the Nissan UD Cattle Truck: 

• 2 x 200 Watt Enerdrive Solar Panels 
• 100Ah Lead Crystal Battery
• Enerdrive DC2DC 40+ Battery Charger with Solar Regulator
• 12V Cigarette Socket
• Dual USB Ports
• Voltmeter
• Grey Anderson Plug

So, first up, the Solar. We installed 2x 200W Solar Panels on the roof, mounted with custom made aluminium brackets. Rooftop mounted panels are a great option for vehicles like this one. Just park up somewhere in the sun and you are ready to go! 

Once the solar panels were fitted, the technician installed the 100Ah Lead Crystal battery. This was fixed to the floor of the truck’s tray using a heavy duty battery tray. 

Next up was wiring everything together. The technician connected up wiring from the starting battery, auxiliary battery, solar panels and the Enerdrive DC2DC Charger. This particular charger also has a built-in solar regulator which regulates the voltage and currents running through the solar panels to the batteries. 

We also installed a 12V cigarette socket, dual USB, voltmeter and grey Anderson plug. The various sockets are used to power various accessories and devices. The Anderson was installed to power the customer’s 12 Volt fridge. 

All in all, this was a fun install. A pretty straight forward set up, but great to be working on something a bit out of the ordinary.
