Top 4 Reasons to use Accelerate for your towing solutions.

STOP When You Need To

We will have you pulling up fast & safe. We can install Electric Brake controllers and Brake Away Units to your tow vehicle.

Safe Towing

Accelerate will ensure your brake lights, reverse lights, indicators, ESC & brake controller work when you ned them.

Power it Up

We can setup your car to keep your fridge cold and batteries charged in your caravan or trailer while you are driving.

Have Eyes All Around

We love ensuring you can see everywhere will your driving & parking up with cameras behind and along the side of the caravan.

Confused with what you need on your car to tow?

12pin trailer plug, Anderson plug, Fridge Feed, Electronic Brake Controller, Electronic Stability Control, Reverse Cameras… there are so many upgrades you can have done to your car.  Regardless of your vehicle, we talk you through the options.

What do I need for safe towing?

When it comes to towing, there are a few things we highly recommend installing in your vehicle to make sure towing is as safe and stress free as possible. Check out this Towing Setup for ideas.

Anderson Plugs

Common uses for Anderson Plugs:

  1. Charging Caravan or Camper Trailer Batteries while driving
  2. Connecting Electronic Stability Control in caravan to tow vehicle
  3. Connect Solar Panel to vehicle or caravan charging system
  4. Alternative to cigarette sockets for powering 12 Volt accessories such as a fridge or air compressor

An Anderson Plug is a specialised socket we use at the end of our charge circuits. The higher Amp rating of the Anderson Plugs allows for faster charging via larger cables, often 6 or 8 B&S cables. The plug itself is quite durable and robust so it allows for a more secure connection, making it ideal for exposed areas such as tow bars and ute trays.

Electric Brake Controllers

When you are towing a caravan, safety should always be the main priority!

In Australia trailers (including caravan’s) with a GTM exceeding 750kgs must have electronic brakes. If you have a caravan or trailer with electric brakes, the caravan brakes will not work unless you have an Electronic brake controller in your car. Power is fed from the vehicles stoplights into the controller then back to the caravan through the trailer plug. This allows the caravan brakes to come on automatically when you apply the vehicle brakes.

We install and recommend Redarc and Elecbrakes branded brake controllers.  Price’s will vary depending on which controller you would like and what vehicle you are installing it into.

Rear Vision Cameras

We recommend a reverse camera on the rear of your car to provide a view of your trailer hitch and tongue – allowing you to hook up with just one person.
A second camera on the rear of your caravan allows you to see behind the van, great for merging and overtaking PLUS seeing those tight caravan park sites you need to reverse into.
Why stop with two? We can also add cameras to the side of your van to ensure you don’t hit a pole or tree. Adding one or 3 cameras to your caravan or trailer makes reversing or parking your caravan or trailer into a tight spot a breeze.

Our range of reverse cameras for your vehicle and caravan can be professionally installed at our caravan friendly workshop. The cameras come in an array of colours, shapes and sizes. The screens can integrate into your existing multimedia centre, or a new one or for a cost effective option add a removable screen to your dash or rear view mirror

Trailer Plugs

A 7 pin trailer plug connects the following in your car to your caravan; 1. Left Hand Indicator 2. Right Hand Indicator 3. Return to Earth 4. Brake Lights 5. Tail Lights 6. Reverse Lights 7. Electric Brake Controller.

Upgrade to a 12 pin trailer plug to have 5 additional pins to connect things like;  fridge ignition feed, brake away battery monitor, ESC or heavy earth return.  We generally request a wiring diagram from your trailer or caravan manufacture to ensure pins on the tow vehicle match the trailer.

We recommend putting a 12 pin flat on your vehicle as it will plug into a 7 pin flat or 12 pin flat on a trailer.

If you want to charge the batteries in your caravan when you drive, an Anderson plug is a great option.

WeighSafe Tow Hitch

The Weigh Safe Drop Hitch is the one and only trailer hitch that has a built-in scale to effectively measure the ball weight of your towing load. Improving the vehicle tow load balance, resulting in a much safer and enjoyable towing experience.

Before this ball mount, gauging your trailer’s tongue weight was a hassle. You had to rely on inefficient bathroom scales, make a trip to the weigh station, or purchase a separate tongue weight scale.

With the Weigh Safe’s built-in scale, measuring your ball weight is as easy as coupling your trailer to your tow ball.

Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

If your caravan is already fitted with ESC then we can connect it with your tow vehicle. Our preference is to use a 2pin red Anderson plug for the connection as if you plan on going off-road you can disconnect the ESC. ESC can be connected via a 12 pin plug if you don’t plan on going off-road.

If your caravan does not have ESC fitted then we can retrofit Electronic Stability Control to your caravan and car.

Why do you need ESC – have you ever towed a caravan or trailer and had that unnerving moment when the caravan sways from side to side?

Having Electronic Stability Control installed on your caravan can stop that brief but dangerous sway resulting in a loss of control and accident.

Customer Testimonials

Andrew and his team fitted a very large and difficult lithium setup in my caravan. This was not a normal system that they do but did an absolute amazing job on the install. I had a few teething issues with the system and can not believe how good the follow up service was that I received, Andrew and his team could not have be more helpful even making follow up calls just to make sure it was all running ok. These guys fully back their work something that doesn’t happen a lot any more. Without a doubt I would recommend their work but it was their amazing service that I was really surprised by.

Thanks to Accelerate Auto Electrics & Air-conditioning for our recent 12 pin plug installation and upgrade of our Anderson plug wiring to assist in battery charging when driving. Looking forward to dropping off our new caravan in May to get the electrical system upgraded to Enerdrive components and a lithium battery.

If you have any work you need done, go and see them. Great prices, great quote system and helpful staff. They even worked in with my weird rotating roster to get work done.

Experienced team with great customer support and service. Had electrical work done to prepare for touring with my Nissan patrol which was professionally finished. They went the extra mile to offer to pick my wife up, after the car was finished as it was raining and they knew she'd gone to hide out from the rain at the shopping centre. They sorted out an issue with the dash camera that I brought to be installed without fuss. Would recommend for anyone looking for decent work, but importantly great support if something did go wrong later.

Thanks to Andrew and the team at Accelerate Auto, we had our Jayco Silverline converted to Lithium set-up with an inverter and extra solar panels etc, we used the van mostly off grid all the way, right up to the tip of Cape York and back via the outback. Everything performed above what we expected. We would highly recommend Accelerate Auto to anyone needing to upgrade their Caravan or camper....talk to these guys, they really know their stuff. Once again thanks Andrew and the team.

Although our decision making in upgrading the electrics on our two year old jayco caravan was a bit of process, Andrew, Craig and the team at accelerate were awesome. They were patient, awesome to deal with and very open to our decision making and concerns. Now, we have a caravan that we can take 100% off grid and never need to plug into power, as long as the sun is shining. Highly recommend these guys. If we were to buy another caravan which did not have the electrical system our current van has now, accelerate would be our first port of call. Thanks guys

These guys are the bomb when it comes to getting your caravan or 4x4 fitted out. We had a full Lithium/solar system fitted to our new caravan as well as a dual Lithium setup in our 4x4. We have since moved on our 4x4 and just had our new 4x4 fitted out with the same and also setup to connect to our caravan again. These guys know there stuff, do awesome work and they care about their customers needs. Great Service guys keep up the good work.
Highly recommended.
