So you’ve decided to make the switch to lithium but now you’re getting overwhelmed with options for batteries. How do you choose the right lithium battery for your dual battery system?

That’s where we come in. As 12 Volt Experts, we have tried and tested a huge range of lithium batteries that are out on the market, so we’ve put together some useful information to help you decided what lithium battery is best for you.

If you’re still unsure about whether Lithium is right for you, check out this blog > Power of Upgrading to Lithium

Types of Lithium Batteries

So to start with, lets get technical about some of the types of lithium batteries.

It is important to note that there are a number of different technologies that fall under the ‘Lithium Ion’ umbrella, and they all use slightly different materials and exhibit different characteristics, making some more suitable than others in certain applications.

Out of the various types of Lithium Batteries, the safest and most reliable is the Lithium Iron Phosphate (LifePO4). This is due to the thermal and chemical stability of phosphate based technology, providing better safety characteristics than other Lithium Ion technologies. These batteries are also more stable in a range of charging/discharging conditions and are also more chemically robust than other Lithium Ion types.

So, what else should you consider when choosing a lithium battery for your set up?

Brand Quality

The reputation of the lithium battery brand or manufacturer should be a massive contributor to your decision. If you want reliability and longevity from your purchase, you should choose a brand that has quality products and a proven reputation.

Warranty

Another aspect that should factor into your purchase is the product warranty. A high-quality lithium battery should be designed to last you a lot longer than your traditional deep cycle batteries. So, the warranties offered by reputable brands and manufacturers should reflect that longevity.

After Sales Support

If something was to go wrong with your product, could you call the brand, manufacturer or installer for assistance? With lithium batteries being so popular for travel, it is important to know if you will be able to get support, regardless of where you are. Many quality brands offer a nationwide support network, however, there are others that offer very little once you’re out the door.

So why do we recommend some Lithium Batteries and not others?

It comes down to the points mentioned above. Over the years we have seen many brands come and go. We have installed thousands of battery systems and through this experience, we have determined which lithium products we can install and recommend to our customers with complete confidence.
