Another Nissan Navara D40 came in for a Dual Battery setup today. We set up one of our custom battery boxes to go into the tray.
The box is kitted out with
- Two accessory cigarette sockets
- Two USB Ports
- External positive & negative studs
- Two Anderson plug’s & internal fuses
- One DIN/Merit/Hella Socket
- Digital Voltmeter
- Redarc BCDC1220 Charger
The customer opted for a 125AMP Hour AGM Battery which is the biggest we can fit in this box, it will keep their beer colder for longer.

Wiring Up the Dual Battery System
The wiring is run from the start battery to a midi fuse, down to the chassis rail, along the chassis rail to the rear of the vehicle, where it is then split to allow a cable to run to the Anderson plug at rear for towing. The cable then headed up in between the cabin and tray. We used a pre-existing hole in the tray to poke the cable through. We used 8 B&S twin core cable inside convoluted tubing throughout.

Followed the original harness along the chassis rail
To finish it off two anderson plug’s were fitted in the back of the tray. One is for the wire from the start battery that will charge the new 125AMP Hour AGM battery via the Redarc BCDC charger, the other runs to the back of the vehicle to supply power to the anderson plug on the tow bar. The battery box has been secured with a tie down strap.
It’s great to have another happy Nissan Navara D40 customer drive away fully charged and ready for a weekend of fun on the Sunshine Coast.

This website was… how do I say it? Relevant!! Finally I have found something which helped me. Thanks!
Thanks a lot for the blog post. Thanks Again. Fantastic.
Can this be mounted on top of the wheel well of the D40 Navara?
We no longer stock this particular box. We would have to measure up the amount of space available against our new styles of the battery box to know whether it will fit. Feel free to give us a call if you would like more information.
Hi. Great looking battery setup.
Can you add a 1000 watt inverter and removable solar panel setup?
I have a 2008 nissan navara d40 twin cab with a vented canopy and complete tub liner. I will travel around Aus next yr and my plan was to keep spare diesel and my lpg gas tank in the tub. It seems a risk for me to install a battery in my tub. Do you have any suggestions? Maybe I need to keep my diesel and gas on the roof with the roof top tent.
Thanks. Scott
You certainly could add an inverter and a portable solar system to one of our custom battery boxes. Having fuel and gas present in the same area as your battery could only pose an issue if something was to fail or if the battery was disconnected and reconnected in the box. If a spark was to occur when connecting the battery it could present quite a dangerous situation for you, I would recommend carrying your Gas and fuel elsewhere if possible. Unfortunately under the bonnet is not an option in the D40s as there is limited space.
How much is this setup ?
Hi Mitchell, for this setup you are looking at roughly $1450. If you would like a more accurate quote for your vehicle or some more information feel free to send us an email to info@amae.net.au
