Mazda BT50 Dual Battery Setup

Check out this entry level dual battery setup in a Mazda BT50.

Hi. Andrew here from Accelerate Auto Electrics, just showing you something we’ve done today a little bit different than the norm, but a really good setup. Today we’ve got this 2016 BT50, brand new one. The customer wanted a dual battery system but they wanted something they could remove from the vehicle and use when they’re camping. Basically set up camp and put beside their table or whatever so they could run their fridge. The way we’ve done that is we’ve used the Baintech PowerTop in a tray sitting on top of their wheel arch.

Some of the key features of the Baintech PowerTop is it’s a 100 amp power battery. It’s got various sockets, a couple of cigarette lighters, a USB, volt meter, isolation switch. One of the really cool features is it’s actually got a 240 volt charger in it so you can plug it in to charge before you go away camping. It’s also, on the other side, got a 50 amp output, solar input, and change input.

To wire up the PowerTop, what we’ve done is we’ve run from the battery positive through a middy fuse, and then basically just through a smart isolator. To run down the PowerTop we’ve also branched off the smart isolator to run to an Anderson plug at the back of the vehicle, as the customer also has a camper trailer with batteries in it.

Once again, the power goes from the isolator and charges the PowerTop. It also comes down to the Anderson plug, so when the customer plugs in his camper trailer it will charge his batteries in his camper trailer as well. The isolator protects the camper trailer from the car and vice versa, so the camper trailer won’t run the car battery flat.
